Hellfighter, A Modern Odyssey

Yvonne has been the driving force behind Hellfighter, a hybrid performance in which cinema and musictheatre merge. The piece pays tribute to the jazz musicians of the Harlem Hellfighters

Inspired by memoirs of early jazz musicians and based on The Odyssey by Homer, the story presents the travels of a jazz trumpetist through post–World War I Europe. 

Through innovative real-time generated imagery, the performance creates a bridge between the improvisational energy of live jazz solos and the visual world on our screens. Presented within a spatial three-screen set-up, Hellfighter transforms the stage into an immersive cinematic landscape where live music, animated images and storytelling unfold together in the moment.
